How Fuel-Efficient Tyres Can Help You Save Money

With the country facing a cost of living crisis, it is crucial to look for ways how to save money. If you are a vehicle owner, you might have been looking for ways to save on your fuel consumption.

Tips on how you can practice saving fuel when driving:

  • Drive at a reasonable speed

One thing to look out for is the way you drive. It is advisable to drive at a reasonable speed, avoid harsh accelerations, and take it easy when cornering or braking. This can help you hugely in reducing the maintenance and tyre consumption of your vehicle.

  • Check the pressure of your tyres

Regularly checking the tyres’ pressure and making sure they are at the recommended level is important for the vehicle’s safety. NOTE: This information can be found on your car’s handbook, inside the fuel cap, or on the driver’s side door.

  • Look for fuel-efficient tyres to purchase.
  • Keep your tyres and vehicles properly and regularly maintained.

Fuel-efficient tyres make a difference

As the name suggests, fuel-efficient tyres really do their job in helping vehicle owners save on fuel consumption. Unlike standard tyres, fuel-efficient tyres have lower rolling resistance and feature unique tyre efficiency ratings to tell you how efficient they are.

Low Rolling Assistance

This refers to the force your tyre projects onto the road surface. If your tyre has this, it creates much less friction on the road which also means it is using less energy to push your vehicle along – which in turn, also saves you on the amount of fuel used when driving.

Tyre Efficiency Rating

Since all fuel-efficient tyres look the same, the tyre efficiency rating label is what tells them apart. Each label features a grading on three categories: fuel efficiency, braking and grip, and noise. For each category, the tyre will be graded between A (most efficient) to E (least efficient).

Rating categories:

Fuel-efficiency – this will test the overall rolling resistance of the materials used in the tyre.

Braking & Grip – this tests the tyre on the distance it takes to come to a complete stop in both wet and dry conditions

Noise – this tests the amount of noise the tyre emits while the vehicle is moving.
