Why Mixing Car Tyres Should Not Be A Choice

One of the biggest mistakes that car owners make is mixing their tyres thinking that they are all the same. A lot of people are not aware of the fact that not all tyre brands are the same. But if you want your car to last longer and stay safe while on the road, you should take the time to research the brand and quality of the tyre you are planning to purchase.

Mixing tyres have a huge but often unnoticed effect on the performance of a car. When you visit a car servicing centre and mechanics find one problematic tyre, normally they will suggest having all tyres changed. The reason is that applying four tyres with the same brand guarantees more stability to the performance of the vehicle.

Reasons Why You Should Not Mix Car Tyres

According to experts, different tyre brands installed at once can have various negative effects on your car and we have listed some of them below.

Unequal sizes of tyres

Getting unequal-sized tyres is one of the most common problems that people who tried mixing tyres have encountered. This can be very dangerous as your car will suffer an imbalance. Since one tyre is wider than the other, the grip of your car will also become unequal which could cost you a huge amount from a wheel bearing and clutch repair sooner than you can imagine.

Inconsistent performance

Each tyre manufacturer has its own set of technique and procedure when manufacturing tyres which is why the quality also differ between brands. So mixing two tyres from different brands that are manufactured using different techniques and procedures can cause inconsistency in your car’s performance. While no law prohibits mixing car tyres, most manufacturers do not allow it.

Inconsistent tread depth

Tread depth plays a huge role in the performance of the tyre. But while manufacturers have to adhere to the legally approved tread depth, using tyres from different brands can still cause inconsistency in their performance. As a result, your tyres will wear out fast.

Risk of dangers

There are two types of tyres installed in cars which are known as radial and cross-play. Each type of tyre has different designs and performances. Using both of these types on the same axle can affect your car’s performance and cause tyres to quickly deteriorate.
